Rebooting Your Server

To reboot your server, you'll need to connect to it (via SSH for Linux and Remote Desktop for Windows) and issue a reboot command.

Linux

  1. Connect to your server via SSH (more info).
  2. Switch to the root user (more info).
  3. Reboot your server by running the following command:
    reboot

Windows

In Windows 2003

  1. Connect to your server via Remote Desktop (more info).
  2. From the Start menu, select Shut Down.
  3. From the What do you want the computer to do? menu, select the action you want the take.
  4. Select an option and enter a comment.
  5. Click OK.

In Windows 2008/2012

  1. Connect to your server via Remote Desktop (more info).
  2. From the Start menu, select Restart.
  3. Select an option and enter a comment.
  4. Click OK.

If you cannot reboot your server yourself using SSH or Remote Desktop, you can request a power cycle of your server (more info).
