Can I Request a Premium Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificate for a Privately Registered Domain?
Yes, Premium Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates can be requested and issued for privately-registered domain names. However, in order to process the request, [CA] must contact the applicable domain registrar to verify that the certificate requestor controls the domain listed in the request. The domain registrar — assuming that it offers such forwarding services — will then contact the domain registrant via email.
In cases where the registered domain holder cannot be contacted, the certificate-requesting entity must instead submit a Verified Legal Opinion to the effect that he/she/it has the exclusive right to use the domain name in the certificate request. The Verified Legal Opinion must be signed by the Contract Signer, or — if expressly so authorized in a mutually-agreed-upon contract — the Certificate Approver.
Additionally, the requestor must perform a practical demonstration to establish that he/she controls the domain name by making an agreed-upon change in information found online identified by a uniform resource identifier containing requestor's fully-qualified domain name.
