Synchronizing Your Server's Passwords
These instructions do not apply to server with the Gateway interface (more info).
Syncing your server password will update the login credentials on file for the server in your customer account. This does not reset your password for your server. This function will sync your server passwords with your login information on your account for verification purposes only.
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- Click Servers.
- Next to the server you want to use, click Manage.
- From the Support section, click Sync Passwords.
- In the Root Login Information section, enter and confirm your root password.
- In the User Login Information section, enter your user name and password.
- Click Submit.
Your passwords are now synced.
Note: The purpose of syncing your server user name and password is to securely provide our technicians with the correct login credentials for your server in the event that this information has become outdated.
If our technical support team is requesting that a password sync be performed, it is typically in the event that they are unable to log in to the server using SSH (for Linux Servers) or Remote Desktop (for Windows Servers). Here are some common things to avoid when performing a password sync:
- Updating the user name to "admin".
- Updating the user name to "root".
- Updating the user name to a customer number.
- Updating the password to any password that does not allow SSH or Remote Desktop access.
- Changing the original user name that was used when the server was set up.
Please do not perform a password sync on your user name and password unless you have verified that you can use them to successfully log in to your server through SSH or Remote Desktop.
