About .NYC Domain Names
The .nyc top-level domain is a brand new addition that celebrates one of the most exciting cities in the world. If you live or work in the city, let the .nyc domain guide you to all the best NYC has to offer.
Pre-Registration Information
The .nyc launch is divided into two pre-registration phases: Priority Pre-Registration (Landrush) and General Availability. Each phase has specific application requirements:
Pre-Registration
Pre-registration gives you the best possible chance of securing a domain name before it's available to the general public, but it doesn't guarantee you will get it. You can pre-register for the General Availability phase, and we'll submit your registration application when the phase begins.
There are no application fees associated with General Availability; these fees are only applicable to the Landrush phase, and are refundable if you are not awarded the domain name.
You cannot cancel your pre-registration application. If you are awarded the domain name, you have 5 days to cancel your domain name and get a refund of the registration fee only.
Priority Pre-Registration - Landrush
From Aug. 4, 2014, at 15:00 UTC to Oct. 3, 2014, at 15:00 UTC, customers can purchase .nyc domain names at a premium price. An application fee in addition to the domain's registration fee is collected when the registration request is submitted.
Bulk .nyc registration is not supported during Landrush.
NOTE: Domains registered during Landrush will renew at $39.99.
Landrush is operated using the Multi-application Award Method. At the end of the Landrush period, the Registry Operator identifies domain names for which there is more than one application. Where multiple applications for the same domain name exist, the Registry Operator selects the winning application or contracts out the selection process to an auction provider, or other third party. The registrant of a domain name for which there is only one application is deemed the winner.
All single applications will ideally be rewarded by October 3, 2014.
As a reminder, the .nyc Registry only charges for awarded domain registrations (both Landrush fee and Registration fee) once domain names are actually awarded. This means, for single applicants, those domain names will be charged shortly after Landrush closes. For auction applicants, the domain registration and Landrush application fees will be charged once the auction is won. There are no fees charged by the registry to any applicant that did not prevail in an auction.
.NYC Landrush Auctions are scheduled to begin October 23, 2014.
You cannot cancel your pre-registration application. After being awarded, Landrush Registrations are considered non-refundable and Registrars are not permitted to delete registrations. Domain names created during the Landrush phase may not be deleted during the Landrush phase. If there is a need to delete a domain name that was created during the Landrush Phase, then that name may be deleted once General Availability opens.
General Availability
Beginning Oct. 8, 2014, at 15:00 UTC, customers can register .nyc domain names on a first-come, first-served basis.
Bulk .nyc registration is supported during General Availability.
Domains registered during General Availability will renew at $39.99.
Multiple applications with different registrars are resolved on a first-come, first-served basis during General Availability. If you aren't able to secure the domain name, we'll refund the registration fee.You cannot cancel your pre-registration application. If you are awarded the domain name, you have 5 days to cancel your domain name and get a refund of the registration fee.
NOTE: Premium one- and two-letter .nyc domains will be sold at auction by Afternic. The timeframe for the release of these domains, or if they will renew at the premium rate, has not yet been determined.
