SiteLock's SMART scans not only scan your website for malware, it also removes known infections from your site's files to protect your visitors and reputation from harm.

SMART has the following limitations:

  • SMART is only available with Professional or Premium SiteLock accounts. However, if you have a Basic SiteLock account, you can upgrade it to an account with SMART at any time (more info).
  • SMART does not work with Managed Hosting accounts because of an incompatibility with supported FTP types.

SMART needs to connect to your account via FTP to perform the scan and remove malware. This article shows you where to find the settings you need to properly configure SMART.

To Configure SiteLock SMART Scanning

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. Click SiteLock.
  3. Next to the account you want to use, click Manage.
  4. NOTE: If SiteLock and the domain name are not in the same IX-ONE DOMAIN HOST account, you need to verify your domain ownership before you can perform SMART scans (more info).

  5. Go to the Settings tab.
  6. Go to the Download Settings tab.

NOTE: If you have a Web or Classic hosting account, you will receive a message asking you if SMART can modify your website's content. Just click OK; you don't need to complete any of the other steps.

  7. Complete the following fields, and then click Submit:
    Field What to do...
Method for File Transfers Select FTP.
FTP host address Enter your domain name.
    sFTP Port Number Type 21.
Root Directory Enter your website's root directory (more info).

Password Enter your FTP password (more info).
    Select a speed... Select Normal.
    Maximum Download Time Select 30.
  8. Go to the Settings tab, and then go to the SMART Settings tab.
  9. Select your SMART configuration, and then click Submit.

If there are sections of your website you don't want SMART to scan, click Manage Exclusions and configure those options.
