Setting up DNS on WHM for your server is essential to manage zone files, create and register domain names and set up domain nameservers.

NOTE: This article only applies to servers. Our cPanel Shared Hosting accounts do not need to follow these steps to set up their DNS.

To Set up DNS on WHM

  1. Log in to WHM by entering root as your user name.
  2. In the Server Configuration area, click Basic cPanel & WHM Set up.
  3. From the Primary Nameserver and Secondary Nameserver sections, enter ns1.coolexample.com and ns2.coolexample.com, where coolexample.com is the primary domain for your server.
  4. Click Add an A entry for this nameserver and then type the IP address of the server.
  5. Click Save Changes.
  6. Register two domain hosts for your domain name. If you are not sure how to do this, see Setting Nameservers for Your Domain Names.
  7. Create two name servers for your domain hosts. If you are not sure how to do this, see Setting Nameservers for Your Domain Names.
  8. Select I have specific nameservers for my domains, and then enter the two domain hosts you created.
  9. Click Save Changes.
