Last Updated: February 2, 2015 1:10 PM

The .at country-code top-level domain name (ccTLD) is an extension that represents Austria. For companies that conduct business in that country and individuals who want to reach the growing number of Internet users there, .at domain names are a good investment. Registering a .at domain name gives you regional recognition and an easy-to-manage Web presence.

Who can register .at domain names?

Anyone can register .at domain names on a first-come, first-served basis.

Domain names can contain up to 63 characters, with a minimum of three characters, and can contain letters (a to z), numbers (0 to 9), and hyphens (except at the beginning or end of the domain name). You cannot register domain names with special characters such as & and #.

Which registry controls .at domain names?

Nic.at is the registry for .at domain names.

For how long can I register .at domain names?

The minimum and maximum registration length for .at domain names is one year.

When do .at domain names renew?

You must renew your .at domain name 35 days before its expiration date. The renewal date depends on whether you set the domain name to auto-renew or manually renew. We first attempt auto-renewal 54 days prior to the domain name's expiration date. If the renewal attempt fails, we re-attempt renewal 45 days prior to expiration. If that fails, we make a final renewal attempt 35 days prior to expiration. The .at registry deletes domain names 29 days prior to their expiration dates if you do not renew them.

If we are unable to auto-renew your domain name and you do not manually renew it 35 days prior to the expiration date, you might be able to recover it by paying a redemption fee and the cost of renewal. See Відновлення прострочених доменних імен for information.

Can I transfer .at domain names to my account with you?

No. We do not currently support the transfer of .at domain names to us.

How do I transfer .at domain names from you to another registrar?

Please contact support to receive your authorization code needed to transfer away. After you have the authorization code, see Переміщення імен домену до іншого реєстратора for information on transferring a .at domain name to a different registrar.

NOTE: Once the transfer process begins, the domain registrant receives an email from the registry asking for transfer confirmation. If the registrant does not confirm the transfer within 21 days, the transfer fails. Due to registry limitations, transferred .at domain names retain only the remaining registration and there is no automatic extension of the registration.

Can I add privacy and protection to .at domain names?

No. Domains By Proxy® private registration and Protected Registration are not available for .at domain names.

Can I backorder .at domain names?

We do not currently support the backorder of .at domain names.

Can I move .at domain names to another account with you?

Yes, but there are limitations. When you move the domain name, the registrant first name, last name, and company name cannot change.

Can I change the contact information on .at domain names?

To update the following registrant contact fields for your .at domain name, contact our support team:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Organization (company name)

You can update all other contact information in the Domain Manager. See Оновлення контактної інформації для доменного імені for information.

Are there nameserver restrictions for my .at domain names?

Yes. You can have a maximum of four nameservers per .at domain name. Each .at domain name must have two authoritative nameservers. Before you register or modify the domain name, you must list only those nameservers in its zone file.

If you want to register a .at domain name with us and use our nameservers, we handle this process for you.

If you want to use your own nameservers, you must set them up before you register or modify the domain name. You must also ensure that they are resolving properly before you assign them to the domain name in our system.

TIP: You can use a DNS validation tool to ensure that your nameservers are resolving properly. If you do not have a preferred DNS validator, you can use any search engine to find one.

For example, if you want to register coolexample.com.at and use the nameservers ns1.coolexample.at and ns2.coolexample.at, then you must list those nameservers in the domain name's zone file.

After you set up your nameservers and register your domain name, use the instructions in Настроювання серверів імен для ваших доменних імен to set the nameservers in our system.

Do you support DNSSEC for .at domain names?

Yes. See Managing DNSSEC for Your Domain Name for information on enabling DNSSEC for your .at domain name and About Self-Managed DNSSEC for information on the digital signature (DS) fields required for it. You can configure a maximum of ten DS records for your .at domain name.
