Creating Custom Backups

Using File Backup, you can quickly and easily back up files from your computer to your Online File Folder. There are two presets that you can select to backup your most common files in your My Documents folder and My Pictures folder. Or, you can create a custom backup for these or other folders on your computer.

To Create a Custom Backup

  1. From your Start menu or your system tray, open File Backup.
  2. In the the File Backup window, click New.
  3. In the Select a Backup or Sync window, select Custom Backup.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Go to the Folder tab and click Browse to locate and select the folder on your computer that you want to backup.

    NOTE: To create a new folder on your computer to backup, click "Create New Folder" and enter a name to replace "New Folder".

  6. Click OK.
  7. Go to the Options tab and complete the following:
    Enter a name for this backup
    Enter a name for the backup.
    Enter the file types to include
    Enter any file types to include in the backup. You can click Pick to select file types from a list.
    Enter the file types to exclude
    Enter any file types to exclude from the backup. You can click Pick to select file types from a list.
    Enter files or subfolders you want to exclude
    Enter any filenames or subfolder names that you want to exclude from the backup.
  8. Go to the Schedule tab to specify when you want the backup to occur.
    Manual
    Creates a backup that you must run manually from the Actions menu.
    Automatic
    Schedules the backup to run once per day when there is idle time on your computer.
    Daily
    Select the time of day that you want the back to run each day.
    Weekly
    Select the time of day and days of the week that you want the back to run.
  9. Click OK.
