Authorization codes are unique to each domain and provide an extra level of security. The registry assigns authorization codes at the time of registration. When you register new .com, .net, .info, .biz, .tv, or .us, domains with us, we store and maintain your authorization code. Current registries assigning authorization codes are: Verisign (the .com and .net registry), Public Interest Registry (the .org registry), Afilias (the .info registry), NeuLevel (the .biz registry), and NeuStar (the .us registry).

If you want to transfer a domain to us, you need to provide us with the authorization code. You can retrieve your authorization code from your current registrar. We do not have access to your domain authorization code if you did not register your domain with us, but once your transfer is complete, we securely store your authorization code with your domain.

If you want to transfer a .com, .net, .org, .biz, .tv, .us, .info, or .name domain away from us, you access your authorization code from the Domain Manager.

For more information on transferring domains and obtaining an Authorization Code, please refer to our Insider's Guide to Domain Transfers.

NOTE: You can also obtain an authorization code for transferring .eu domains. When you purchase a .eu transfer, we send a request to the European Registry of Internet Domains (EURid) to send an authorization code to the domain registrant. You can use the authorization code to expedite the transfer, within 24 to 48 hours. For more information, see Transferring .EU Domains.
