Walkthrough: Setting up InstantPage for the First Time
We no longer offer new InstantPage accounts.
InstantPage® lets you set up your own website in an instant, establishing a presence on the Internet in no time. While you work, InstantPage automatically saves and publishes your changes. Use this walkthrough to learn about the elements of the InstantPage dashboard.
If you chose not to set up your InstantPage website using the Quick Setup Wizard, you can always activate your InstantPage account from your Account Manager.
In the event you need to update your domain name A record, the IP address for your InstantPage site is 97.74.42.79. For more information, see Managing DNS for Your Domain Names.
To Set Up InstantPage for the First Time
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- Click Website Builder/InstantPage.
- From the Website Builder/InstantPage tab, click Set Up next to the account you want to use.
- Select the domain name you want to associate with your InstantPage website, and then click Set Up. A message displays indicating the account was added successfully.
- From Website Builder/InstantPage, next to the domain you selected, click Manage. The Welcome to InstantPage window displays with your website.
- Select that you have read and agree to the terms and conditions of the InstantPage Terms of Service Agreement, and then click Start Now.
- Configure your website's elements from these tabs on your InstantPage dashboard:
Background
InstantPage lets you create a customized background that uses an image you select. You can easily upload an image from your computer. You can also choose a background image from a database of free images.
To Upload an Image for the Background
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Background tab, go to Choose a Background., and then click Upload Image.
- Click Browse.
- Select the file you want, and then click Open.
- In the Upload Background window, click Upload. The image displays in your website's background.
With InstantPage, you can crop the image you display as your website's background.
To Crop an Image for the Background
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Background tab, go to Choose a Background, and then mouse over the image you want to crop.
- Click the Crop icon.
- Crop the image, and then click OK.
With InstantPage, you can choose not to display an image for the background, leaving it blank.
To Display No Image for the Background
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Background tab, go to Choose a Background.
- To display no image, click No Image. The background displays without an image.
With InstantPage, you can use a stock image for your website's background.
To Use a Stock Image for the Background
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Background tab, go to Choose a Background.
- Click Stock Images, select an image for your background, and then click OK. The image displays as your website's background.
With InstantPage, you have several ways to position your background image.
To Position an Image for the Background
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Background tab, go to Position your Background, and then select one of these options:
- Normal — The background image displays the same size as the original.
- Tile — The background image tiles across the page.
- Scale — The background image displays to scale with the entire page.
- Fit — The background image displays with its original proportions.
- Click a square in the positioning grid to determine the image location in relation to the rest of your page.
Text
With InstantPage, you can enter text in content blocks, and manage the font and size.
To Manage Text
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Text tab, enter text in these fields:
- Title — Enter a name for your website. The title displays in the browser toolbar.
- Description — Enter a few words describing your website.
- Title Style — Select a font for your website's title.
- Description and menu links style — Select a font for your description and the links in your menu.
- Title Size — Select a size for the title text.
- Description Size — Select a size for your description and the links in your menu.
- Menu Links Size — Select a size for the links in your menu.
- Social Networking Links — Display icon links to allow your visitors to share your website through Facebook®, MySpace®, Twitter®, Delicious®, and StumbleUpon®.
- The changes display on your website.
Layout
InstantPage lets you arrange content blocks and adjust their alignment on the page
To Manage the Layout
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can also log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Layouts tab, go to Choose a Layout, and then select either Side Menu or Top Menu. Each displays your content block in a different format.
- From Choose an Alignment, select Left Side, Centered, or Right Side. You can change your selection at any time.
Apps
InstantPage offers a variety of apps to give your website added functionality. You can display apps in the Menu Items block by adding new apps or removing those you no longer want. You can also edit an app to change the way it displays.
If you don't add apps to the Menu Items block, that block remains blank. However, you can adjust the block color to make it transparent. For instructions on changing the color, see Managing Colors in InstantPage.
To Add Apps
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Apps tab, go to Select Apps, and then select an app. The app displays from My Apps.
With InstantPage, you can easily delete apps.
To Delete Apps
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can also log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Apps tab, go to My Apps, and next to the app you want to delete, click Delete. The app no longer displays from My Apps.
With InstantPage, you can easily edit apps.
To Edit Apps
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can also log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Apps tab, go to My Apps, and next to the app you want to edit, click Edit.
- Edit your app, and then click Save.
Colors
InstantPage lets you select colors for your website's background, text, and content blocks. You can select a palette that combines complementary colors, and you can select colors individually.
You can modify palette colors of website elements. For example, you can select colors individually, or you can make blocks transparent if you don't want the background to display.
Once you find a color scheme you like for your website, we recommend you save that palette. While InstantPage automatically saves and publishes changes to the content of your website, you must manually save a palette you create.
To Manage Colors in InstantPage
- Log in to your InstantPage account. You can log in by going to your InstantPage site, clicking Owner Login, and then entering the login information for your InstantPage account.
- From the Colors tab, go to Choose a Palette, and then select a palette. Palettes are matching color combinations aimed to convey a familiar mood or idea, such as Subdued, Rustic or Sea Breeze.
- Click Customize palette to modify the colors of these website elements:
- Page Background Color — Select the color for the website background.
- Title Background Color — Select the color for the background in the title and description text blocks.
- Title Color — Select the color for the of text in the title content block.
- Description Color — Select the color for the of text in the description content block.
- Menu Background Color — Select the color for the background of the menu content block.
- Menu Link Color — Select the color for the of text in the menu content block.
- App Background Color — Select the color for the background of the app content blocks.
- App Heading Color — Select the color for headings of the app content blocks.
- App Text Color — Select the color for text in the app content blocks.
- App Link Color — Select the color for hyperlinks in the app content blocks.
- Each time you select a page element to change the color, the color picker displays standard color values. To select a custom color or enter a CSS color value, click the arrow on the right side of the color picker.
- Select a color, and then click OK.
- If you like the palette you created, click Save Palette, enter a Palette Name, and then click Save.
- Your website displays the colors you selected.
